Well,
I've been getting deeper and deeper into the school part of this experience, which is good. We're beginning to get pressure to come up with a thesis topic and research proposal.
I thought that that would be the easy part, but although I know my general interests, I'm finding it hard to come up with a specific and refined topic. I don't feel like I know enough about anything to write a research paper about it. I'm hoping that it will slowly and surely come together.
I'm also finding it a bit hard to look into a Canadian issue in social development from a venue in Europe that looks primarily at issues in developing nations. The library and the staff aren't exactly overflowing with information about social welfare in Canada, and thats made me realize I'll probably have to come home for data collection and that the most ideal circumstance would be to lign up a research internship with an organization back home for that same period. But in order to begin to pursue that option, I have to have a better idea of my focus.
...slowly but surely...

Ciao Carmen!
A belated welcome to Europe! A little bird told me you had a blog so I thought I'd check it out. Nice to see you are settling into life in the Netherlands, I hope you are enjoying it. I am working in Italy at the moment; it would be nice to get in touch again after all these years... can't seem to find an e-mail address for you on this blog, so I'll give you mine:
smithinternational@gmail.com
I'd love to hear from you, even if just to say hello. Take care,

Don't worry Carm, I'm sure it'll come to you. And if you can get through this, you can graduate in time to come back and get ready for Kenya in July 2008. How does that sound? By the way, Caleb loved talking with you on the web cam the other day...keeps talking about "Auntie CARLIN on the kputer"...
