My Dad's new home in Italy

So, my Dad finally decided to move back to Italy for a bit in order to regain his citizenship. He is staying, in true Italian fashion, in the house of his sister-in-law's mother, right across the street from his sister-in-law's aunt, in a little town of about 3000 called Casalvieri. Its 2 trains and 2 buses south of Rome, in a nice area full of mountains. The little towns around him are all like the one in this picture; a little cluster of stone buildings up on a hill with a few farms down in the valley.
My Mom and I went to Italy for a week with my Dad to help him get settled. We went to Rome, Venice, Trieste to see his sister and to Casalvieri where he'll be living.
This is Casalvieri, with the mountains in the background, snow still on them in mid-April.

Rome and Venice

Trevi Fountain in Rome
The canals of Venice.
Venice was beautiful but in a weird sort of impossibly amazing way. I almost didn't want to trust it because it seemed too amazing to be real. Although people actually live there and have lives there, I came to sort of think of it as a bit of a Disneyland for Italy; this place that exists but was created with deliberate beauty, and meant to be enjoyed by a select few..
Its obvious I've been reading way too much about equality and alleviation of deprivation and Development....

Rome at Easter

Everyone came and gathered around the Colosseum on the night before Easter because the Pope was supposed to be coming by the give a speech. People waited and waited but he was late. We didn't end up staying long enough to see him.
